Class 1

Pupil of the week certificate for printing

Class Welsh Certificate avalible for printing at home.

Class 1 Information for parents 2020-2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to Class 1 J

We are very aware that starting school is already a big step for you and your child. Even though it is going to be a very unusual start to the new academic year, we are confident that your child will settle well into their new classroom and daily routines.  We are creating our own ‘class bubble’ and our daily routine involves regular hand washing and sanitising.

The Foundation Phase is based on developing children’s skills, knowledge and understanding and encouraging them to be independent learning. Our topic focus at the moment is on wellbeing, ensuring all pupils are happy, settled and ready for learning and continuing to make progress.

Class information

  • Mrs Coombes will be your child’s class teacher on a Monday and Tuesday, and Mrs J Davies will be their teacher on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Each child will be provided with their own stationary pouch which will include coloured pencils, chalks, whiteboard and pen.
  • We have fruit snack everyday so your child can bring in a piece of fruit daily.
  • PE for this half term will be carried out outside. There is no need to provide PE kit for your child. However, you may wish to dress them in trainers and joggers on a Friday for our PE day.
  • Outdoor Learning shall be a key feature for many of our learning activities so please provide your child with a pair of named wellies that can be left in school and ensure they wear a waterproof coat daily.
  • Please ensure that your child has a change of clothes in their bag on a daily basis, in case of toilet accidents. If your child needs changing twice during the day, they will then be changed into spare school clothes which will come home with them. They will need to be washed and returned to school the following day.
  • Hometasks will be set weekly on a Friday and will be set online on our class page on the school website. (bryncethinprimary.com)
  • Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school every day, clearly marked with their name and filled from home. There is no need to bring any other resources to school.
  • Please ensure that you have read and signed forms relating to your child’s photograph being shown on our Twitter/school web page.

General reminder – pleases label all clothing as the children tend to take cardigans and jumpers off and forget to put them on their pegs.

Friday 25th September

This weeks home task is to learn a number rhyme.

Please show your child a selection of number rhymes. Ask them to choose their favourite and learn it. E.G. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 once I caught a fish alive, 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed, 10 green bottles etc.

It would be lovely if you could record your child saying their rhyme and tweet it to us @BryncethinPS1 We can then play it in class next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone :-)

Friday 9th October

This week please help your child to practice putting their coat on and doing their zip up.

Here is a song you might enjoy...

Happy Friday Class 1! Thank you for another lovely week in Nursery.

You should be receiving your login details for Oxford Owl this afternoon, via email. This is what we will be using for our home reading this term. Please follow the instructions on the email to access the correct books. They are picture books to begin with, so please have plenty of discussions with your child about what they can see happening etc. We will also be starting group guided reading in class in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend :-)

Happy Friday Class 1!

This week we have been looking at the letter 'p' and it's sound. We have been learning how to form it when writing and how to sound it out. For your homework this week we would like you to go on a hunt around your home, or even go for a walk, and search for things beginning with 'p'.

Please make a list of the things you find, take a photo of it and upload it to twitter so we can see all the wonderful things that you have found. @BryncethinPS1

Have fun! :)

Enjoy your weekend,

Mrs Davies & Mrs Coombes

Friday 20th November 2020

We are always practicing forming our numbers in Class 1. For your homework this week we would like you to practice forming your numbers in the most fun way possible.

Here are a few ideas: in shaving foam (on a tray), on the side of the bath using bath crayons, using a paintbrush and mud/water, in a tray of custard, in glitter. Please take a photo of yourself doing this task and upload it to twitter @BryncethinPS1

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs Davies & Mrs Coombes

Friday 27th November 2020

We have been reading the story of The Gingerbread Man this week, and we have learnt that he is a really fast runner! For your homework, we would like you to design a pair of super fast running shoes for the Gingerbread Man. You can either choose to decorate an old pair of your own shoes, draw around your foot and decorate that, or design and cut a pair out using cardboard. Please take a photo of your design and upload it to twitter @BryncethinPS1.

Have a lovely long weekend!

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda, Dosbarth 1!

Happy New Year, Class 1!

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing break at home. Although we can't start our new term in class together, we can still have fun learning together online :-)

Today, let's start the year off with a lovely dance. You will need a scarf or tea towel or sock for this exercise. Click on the link below....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBQpjodPuGI

Winter has definitely arrived in Wales, and the temperature is much colder now. Some of you may have been lucky enough to have seen some light snowflakes fall last week. Your other task today is to create paper snowflakes. You may need some help with this from your grown up. Please be carful when using your scissors! Feel free to decorate them as you wish, or leave them white just like real snowflakes.

Below are some examples for you to see...

Please share your work with us on class dojo, we love seeing how hard you've been working :-)

There are also activities listed daily on class dojo. We hope you have fun! Enjoy!

Thursday 7th January

Bore da! Good morning!

Thank you for all your super efforts at completing tasks on your first day back yesterday :-)

With the weather being sooooo cold at the moment, we have to make sure we dress up warm with our hats, gloves, and scarves. Today we thought that it might be a nice idea to decorate your own pair of gloves/mittens, similar to the ones below:

Also, we would really like to know the things that make you happy :-) So you can either copy the layout of the sheet below or make your own similar one:

Have a happy day :-D

Friday 8th January

Happy Friday everyone! :-)

Here are today's tasks:

Task 1 - get crafty and create your own wintery snow globe. You will need card, pens, paint and your finger tips! Here is an example:

Task 2 - why not get your dancing shoes on and join in with a fun winter dance - The Winter Hokey Pokey!

Click on the link below to get the party started:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBYNtMyN_6E

Don't forget that your numeracy and literacy tasks are now on hwb :-)

Have a great day!

Monday 11th January

Bore da! Good morning!

This week we are doing work linked to the story of 'Stickman' by Julia Donaldson. There is a video/ copy that you can listen to on Youtube if you haven't already.

We hope you enjoy your tasks today!

Task 1 - Use a stick to create your own Stickman character. It doesn't have to be a man, it could even be a stick lady/ child/ animal/ creature.

Task 2 - Click on the link below to have a sing along session. Singing is a lovely way to start your day and it's a very good way of making yourself feel happy :-D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJXXRkJ0l5I

Don't forget to check your numeracy and literacy tasks on Hwb, and remember to send us your photos on class dojo :-)

Have a lovely Monday!

Tuesday 12th January

Bore da plant! Sut wyt ti?πŸ˜ƒ

We have got more Stick Man activities for you to enjoy today!

When Stick Man tries to escape from the fire, he moves in many different ways, for example, with a scratch, scrape, wiggle, jiggle, poke, shove, nudge, hop, jump. Can you do these moves and can you think of any others?

Yesterday, you thought about different uses for sticks.
Today we would like you to be creative and make a wand using a stick. Here are some ideas...

If your wand was magic, what would you wish for?πŸͺ„βœ¨

We are looking forward to seeing your designs, please send them to ClassDojo!

Also, head over to Hwb for today’s literacy and numeracy activities!

Have a great day!

Wednesday 13th January

Good morning Class 1! Hope you're having a 'sticktastic' week so far?!

Here are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - using the sticks you have collected (or lollypop sticks/ straws), create a special stick crown that you can wear around your home (or on a winter walk) with pride. Please send a photo of yourself wearing it, to class dojo. I would love to see your creation!

Task 2 - Throughout the Stickman story, his facial expressions change a lot. Sometimes he looks happy, sad, worried....

See how many different facial expressions you can make, to match Stickman's feelings. Ask your grown up to do them too. Do you look similar when you make the same facial expression?

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and be sure to look at your numeracy and literacy tasks on hwb :-)

Thursday 14th January

Bore da! Good morning!

You have worked so hard all week so far, so maybe today you could start off with some yoga.

Click on the link below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgpvTAfTzyA

Last night Stickman ended up in your freezer! This morning he is completely stuck in the ice!

It's your job to find a way to free him. Think about tools that you may need, or places that you may want to put him until the ice melts by itself. It's quite the emergency, but you need to be wise with your choices.

Please take a photo and share it with me on class dojo, with a simple reason for your choices (kindly ask your grown up to help you write it)

I really hope you think of a quick but safe way to help rescue Stickman! Good luck!

Enjoy!

Friday 15th January

Happy Friday Class 1! We really hope you've had a fun week, doing your Stickman tasks and learning at home. Hopefully you'll enjoy today's activities as well!

Task 1 - This activity involves lots of exercise. Write your name and match each letter to the sheet below to find out which exercises you have to do. Get your grown ups to join in too!

Task 2 - Things may seem strange to you at the moment. Not being able to see all your friends and family, and play together. Not being able to come to school yet. You might be feeling sad, or frustrated, or even lonely. So we thought it would be a nice idea for you to create a special box, full of special things that remind you of lovely times and make you feel happy. You can decorate your box and keep it in a safe place, so that you can go to it and pull all your happy memories out to look at whenever you feel like you need cheering up. You don't have to fill it today, as you may want to take time to think about what you want to put in your box.

Mrs Morgan has already made one, so she has kindly recorded a video for you to watch, to show and tell you about her happy memories. Head over to class dojo to see how Mrs Morgan has decorated her special box, and what she has put in it.

Have a great weekend :-)

Monday 18th January

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!πŸ˜ƒ

Today’s activities are going to be based on the story ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson.

This story has been shared on Hwb for Class 1 to listen to, along with your language and maths activities.

Perhaps your daily exercise could include a short walk. Use your senses to notice the environment around you.
When you return, draw a simple map to show the things you saw and passed along the way.

Then you could choose an animal from the story and create a textured picture of it.

Have a super day!

Yoga moves can help relax your body and mind.
There were lots of animals in the story yesterday, ‘What the Ladybird Heard’. Can you do the following animal poses?

Your ladybird and animal designs were superb yesterdayπŸ‘
Today, perhaps you can make a ladybird out of an egg carton/box? Be creative with your designs. Give your ladybird a name also! I can’t wait to see them!

Also, head over to Hwb for today’s language and maths tasks.

Wednesday 20th January

Good morning everyone! Hope you're well, and enjoying your ladybird themed week so far :-) Below are your tasks for today.

Task 1 - Play a game of character bingo with a member of your family. If you are unable to print the sheets below, maybe you could draw the characters from the story and make your own bingo game.

Task 2 - This activity is a physical one. You have to use your body to move creatively like different animals. If you are able to print the sheet off, you may want to cut the cards out and turn them over one by one, and do the matching action. You could even make your own game up!

I hope you have fun today! I look forward to seeing your photos on class dojo, and sharing them with your friends. Don't forget to check your literacy and numeracy tasks on hwb.

Enjoy! :-D

Thursday 21st January

Happy Thursday Class 1!

Here are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - In the story 'What the Ladybird heard' the cow is a prize cow and wears a rosette to show it. A rosette is similar to a medal and is awarded for doing something really well.

Today I want you to choose someone in your home who does something really well, make them a rosette and present them with it. You may give it to your special person because they make you laugh, they take good care of you, they help you with your school work, they cook the most delicious food, they run super fast etc. I have included a template below if you wish to print it out or make one similar. Please ask your grown up to help you write who it's for and why. It would be lovely if you could have a photo taken, presenting it to your special person.

Task 2 - Today I wonder if you could try and be sneaky movers like the thieves in the story. They had to move quietly from one side of the farm to other, turning corners and changing directions. For this task you will need to create your own obstacle course using things in your home. I have put pictures below to give you ideas of what you could use in yours...

Have fun, stay safe and be sneaky movers!

Friday 22nd January

Happy Friday boys and girls!

It's the end of the week, and what a busy week it has been! I hope you have enjoyed your learning tasks and have learnt how to do something new :-)

Here are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - you'll need plenty of energy for this one. Here is a song called 'The Ugly Bug Ball'. In this song there are a few action words. Listen out for them and see if you can do the matching movement, all whilst dancing!

I wonder if the Ladybird in our story this week, ever went to the Ugly Bug Ball....what do you think?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fsKP-EtByA

Task 2 -  Relax after your dancing activity with a calm colouring session. Print out the sheet below, or if not, maybe you could find a colouring sheet that you already have at home to colour in.

Have a great weekend class 1!

Did you build a snowman, throw snowballs, go sledging  or make snow angels?β›„οΈβ„οΈπŸ›·

Today is Dydd Santes Dwynwen, St Dwynwen’s Day.
Watch the following video clip to find out all about it...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IlxUzjxgz24

Did you enjoy that? I really enjoyed it and thought the children did a brilliant job telling and acting out the story❀️

Today, we would like you to think about someone you care about and why you love them. Perhaps you can think of something nice you can do for them, to show how much you care.

Lovers in Wales celebrate St Dwynwen’s Day on 25th January and send cards to loved ones. Maybe you can make a card to give to someone special...

You are working so hard at home Class 1, so it’s important to have some brain breaks! Singing and dancing is a fun way of getting plenty of exercise. Can you join in with the following Jack Hartmann ‘Brain Break’ dance?

Hello boys and girls!πŸ‘‹πŸ½
I hope you are all well and feel refreshed after a few fun days in the snow β„️ ⛄️

After reading Elmer yesterday, we thought it would be nice for you to read or listen to ‘Elmer in the Snow’ today. Click on the link on Hwb.

As part of your daily exercise, perhaps you would like to join in with the following snowman dance...

https://youtu.be/F5JMofSKeR0

This week we have asked you to keep a diary of the different coloured food that you eat. It is important to eat healthy food. Maybe you would like to get creative by making and eating a snowman snack. Don’t forget to count the colours and add them to your chart.

You will find your literacy and numeracy tasks on Hwb.

Please continue to send us your photographs on ClassDojo, they make us smile and we love sharing them

Bore da pawb! Good morning everyone! I hope your week is going well so far, and that you're enjoying your Elmer themed activities. :-)

Here are today's tasks:

Task 1 - With Elmer being the main character, and an elephant, maybe you could create your own elephant mask today, similar to the one below:

Task 2 - Elmer was very good at making his elephant friends laugh. :-D

What makes you laugh? On seperate pieces of paper, write down things that make you laugh. Once you have done this, place them all around you (might be easier to lay on the floor and put them all around you) and show us your best laughing face! Ask your grown ups to kindly take a photo of you with all the things that make you laugh scattered all around you.

I'm excited to see your photos and find out what makes you laugh the most! :-)

Have a great day all!

Thursday 28th January

Bore da! Good morning!

Hope you are all well. Mr Barr is covering in class 1 today and will be marking work completed on hwb. For today's website tasks, take photos like usual and then share them with me (Mrs Davies) on Friday on class dojo, so that I can then share them with your friends on our page. I hope you enjoy today's activities:

Task 1 - This week you have been recording the different colour foods you've been eating. So today, maybe you could make a colourful breakfast or lunch. You could then add all these diffrent colours to your food colour chart.

Task 2 - For this task you will need a dice. Take it in turns to roll the dice, and do the following actions that match the number you land on:

1 - swing your trunk using your arm

2 - miss a turn

3 - stomp 5 times like an elephant

4 - Roll the dice again

5 - Roll on your back like Elmer in the story

6 - Run on all fours

Enjoy your day, and I will look forward to catching up with you all on Friday :-)

Friday 29th January

Hello everyone, happy Friday! I hope you all enjoyed your tasks yesterday :-)

Here are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - Elmer was every colour of the rainbow, so today I thought it would be fun to do a walking rainbow experiment.

Task 2 - Click on the link to play a Elmer memory game on Espresso:

I hope you had a lovely weekend!πŸ˜ƒ

Our theme this week is all about penguins and friendship πŸ§πŸ‘

Have you got lots of friends? How do you care for them? Do you have lots of fun together?

I love the way penguins move, they waddle! Can you waddle like a penguin? Join in with the following Jack Hartmann dance...

Tuesday 2nd February

Hello Class 1! πŸ˜ƒ

This week it is Children's Mental Health Week, 1st-7th February 2021. This year's theme is 'Express Yourself'. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good! yes

Exercise is great way to clear your mind and it helps to make you feel good.

Can you do the following penguin exercises? Perhaps you can play your favourite tune and move in time to the music!

At the end of the day, talk about the best thing that has happened to you today.

Rate your day, which face would you choose to describe it?...

laughindecisionsad

In the story 'Penguin and Pinecone', Penguin was very kind and knitted Pinecone a scarf.

Can you design a hat and scarf for Penguin?

Head over to Hwb to find your language and maths activities.

Have a fun day!

Hwyl fawr, goodbye! πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Wednesday 3rd February

Bore da pawb! Good morning everyone!

I hope you're enjoying the story of the week 'Penguin and Pinecone'. I love penguins, they are my favourite animal. I love how the waddle about, and how they are able to dive in and out of the water so fast! Below are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - In the story, Penguin packs a bag on his sledge. Today I would like you to play a guessing game. Collect a few objects from around your home and place them one at a time in a bag. The other person then has to put their hand in the bag and have a feel of the object before guessing what it is. Repeat this with a few of your objects before swapping over and having a go for yourself.

Task 2 - Create a penguin similar to the ones below...

Make sure to check today's literacy and numeracy tasks on hwb, and to send us your photos on dojo so we can celebrate your work :-)

I hope you have a super cool Wednesday!

Thursday 4th February

Good morning everyone! Thank you for all your wonderful work yesterday. I hope you enjoy today's tasks too.

Task 1 - start your day off by finding somewhere comfy and cosy to lay. When you're ready, click on the link below to listen to some relaxing morning music. Close your eyes and just listen to the sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUXEeAXywCY

Task 2 - For this task you will need blocks/lego, a straw and a cotton wool ball/ pompom (or even a small ball made of foil/paper). In the Penguin and Pinecone story, it tells us that the wind blew hard against Penguin. I wonder if you could be like the wind today?

A fun way to exercise and take a brain break is to play ‘Simon Says’.

Choose some actions to perform from the list below:

Which action was your favourite?
Which action was the most tiring?😴

Monday 8th March 2021

Bore da Class 1,

I hope that you all had a nice weekend.

I was looking out of my window at the weekend and I saw lots and lots of wildlife and flowers. It made me very happy, because it means that Spring is here! This week we are going to be learning about Spring, and all of the new life that it brings.

Lambs, calves and chicks are some types of baby animals that are born in Spring. Can you guess what animals they become when they grow up?

Using a paper plate (or cut circles out of paper if you don't have paper plates) can you make a mask to make you look like a springtime animal? There are some pictures below to give you some ideas.

Can you act out some of the spring animals below? Maybe you could wear your masks!
Please send photos of your work to ClassDojo, and check j2e for your Maths and LLC tasks.

Tuesday 9th March

Bore da Class 1,

I am so impressed by your work yesterday, you all did amazingly!

Today's tasks are:

The video below has lots and lots of animal dance moves. Can you do the animal dances in the video? My favourite is the snake wiggle, which one do you like best?

Your second activity today is to create a symmetrical butterfly picture. All butterflies are symmetrical, which means that they look exactly the same on both sides!

You can create a symmetrical butterfly using paint. If you draw or cut out the shape of a butterfly, and paint one half of it, then you can fold the two halves together while the paint is wet to print it on the second half!

If you don't have paint, don't worry! You can draw and decorate the butterfly in coloured pen or pencil. Don't forget to try and make it the same on both sides!

I am very excited to see your butterflies, and the work from hwb too! Please send photos to ClassDojo.

Wednesday 10th March

Bore da pawb! Good morning everyone!

Hope you're all enjoying our 'Spring' themed week so far :-) It's been so lovely seeing all your amazing work this week already, so well done to all of you!

Here are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - Complete the spring time 'I spy'. You may be happy to do it on your computer/ device or you might find it easier if you print it out.

Task 2 - Spring is the season of new beginnings and new life. We see new flowers growing, baby animals being born, and new buds growing on trees. Today I would like you to create a spring time tree painting, like the one below. You can either use your finger tips, cotton buds, or something else that's similar to help print the new buds onto your spring time tree.

I hope you have a great day and enjoy your tasks. Don't forget to check out your activities on hwb too. I look forward to seeing your super work on class dojo!

Thursday 11th March

Good morning boys and girls!

Here are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - click on the link below to play a fun game of 'Simon says'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lob3Q7TKmQQ

Once you have played it, have a go at being the leader and giving the instructions for others to follow.

Task 2 - Go on a spring time scavenger hunt. Use the tick list below to record what you see...

I hope you have a lovely day and manage to get out for some fresh air to complete your scavenger hunt. If you are unable to do it today, maybe save it for another day.

I look forward to seeing your photos on dojo :-) Have fun everyone!

Friday 12th March

Happy Friday class 1! Hope you've all enjoyed our Springtime themed week of online learning. Below are your tasks for today:

Task 1 - This Sunday is a very special day for Mums. It is Mother's Day. This a day when we can treat our mum to something lovely to say thank you for all that she does for us, and for the love and care that she shows us. Today it would be lovely if you could make your mum a special Mother's Day card to show you how much you love her, and how grateful you are for her. (You may want some help to begin with and then keep part of the card a surprise for her!). Below are some card ideas...

Task 2 - To go with your Mother's day card maybe you could make her a little gift? How about painting pasta tubes and threading them onto string to make a necklace and bracelet? If you haven't got pasta tubes maybe you could use something else to thread like beads, cereal hoops, buttons.

I hope you have a great day Class 1, and I hope all you 'Super Mums' have a lovely day on Sunday. Thank you for all your hard work this week and for your continued support.

The Class 1 team :-)
