We have reached the end of our lockdown learning and will be returning to school on Monday. I am so looking forward to seeing you all again, I truly can't wait.

I'd like to thank you all for your hard work over the past few months, you have done an incredible job, also I'd like to thank your parents for their continuing support, it is very much appreciated. 

Make the most of the weekend, have lots of fun, but don't forget that Sunday is a special day for all those wonderful Mothers, Grandmothers, Foster Mothers and any other special ladies.

Today is a very important day if you live in Wales, it's the day that we celebrate our Patron Saint, St David, and all things Welsh. Normally on this day, in school, we would be having our school Eisteddfod where we would be competing in our houses and having lots of fun. Even though we can't celebrate in our usual way, there are other ways in which we can celebrate, have a look at today's activities:

In Wales we have many symbols that represent our country such as Daffodils, Leeks, Sheep, Dragons, Love Spoons, Welsh Cakes, Bara Brith and the Traditional Welsh Costume.

Using resources that you have in the house, can you make one or more Welsh symbols, you could: 

- make a model

- make a collage

- draw a picture

- bake a recipe

We have reached the end of another half term and today is your last day before a well deserved week off. 

Thank you so much for all your hard work and effort during this difficult time you are all doing an amazing job. Parents, I'd like to thank you also for the support you are giving your children and helping the with their activities, we know how difficult it can be, you are all fantastic too. 

Enjoy your half term, remember to relax as much as you can and spent lots of quality time with your families.

Mr Ffit would like you to play a game of hide and seek. If you have limited space, why not try hiding an object and asking your family members to find it. Maybe give them some clues to direct them in the right direction, don't make them too easy though. You could do this indoors or outdoors or even both.

As you all use the internet for a variety of different things, it is very important that you know how to use it safely and what risks to be aware of. 

Have a look at the 4 different internet safety scenario cards below and discuss the risks with your parents. During your discussions think of ways in which you can ensure that you can stay safe while using the internet, social media platforms and online gaming.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2021 - Express Yourself

From 1-7 February 2021 schools, youth groups, organisations and individuals across the UK will take part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is Express Yourself.

Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.

It’s important to remember that being able to express yourself is not about being the best at something or putting on a performance for others. It is about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself.

Activity 1

Here's a game you can play as a family, it's all about expressing yourself. 

If you were a......what would you be?

Cut out the list of words (or write them on pieces of small paper), fold them up and place them in a bowl.  In turns, take out a word  and ask each player: If you were a ......what would you be?

Today is Dydd Santes Dwynwen, which is a traditional celebration of the Welsh Patron St of Lovers, it's the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine's Day. 

Listen to the story, performed by Little Redwood Class, reciting the history of Santes Dwynwen. 

Traditionally, lovespoons are given as gifts on Dydd Santes Dwynwen as a symbol of love. 

Can you design your own Lovespoon, have a look at the examples below and the meaning of lovespoon symbols. Simply draw your design on paper and upload a photo of it on our Google Classroom stream.

Today I thought you could invent your own healthy yogurt snack bar. Here's a recipe for a Vanilla and Berry Yogurt snack. Could you follow the recipe but change the flavour yogurt and strawberries and raspberries for your ingredients of your choice.

If you have the ingredients available at home, go ahead and make your snack bar, if not, ask a parent to buy them for you next time they go essential food shopping.

It's winter and it's cold, but we haven't had any snow yet. In that case, let's learn how to draw some snow flakes, maybe it will encourage some snow 

Activity 2

Have a go at writing a winter themed acrostic poem. I've attached an example. remember with acrostic poems, each line begins with the next letter of the word. You can do this on paper or on the computer. If you choose the computer, use google docs or slides and upload it to the stream for us all to see.

Bore Da/Good Morning Class 10.

Happy New year to you all. I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and are safe and well. Unfortunately we are still in a strange situation and will be online learning for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we will all be back together in class soon learning and enjoying each other's company (from a distance).

In the mean time, there will be two activities a day for you to complete on Google Classroom as well as two activities on here, the school website.

If you have any problems accessing the work, let me know and I will do my best to help you.

The New Year is celebrated in countries all over the world. 

Use the internet to research how to say 'Happy New Year' in 10 different languages. Draw a table to show your results, you can use docs on google classroom if you wish. 

Activity 2

It's a new year, maybe it's time to get fit. 

It's cold outside, so why not try this indoor circuit to get you heart pumping. Ask your family members to join in.

Bore Da Dosbarth 10. We have made it to the end of a very strange and unusual term. I am very proud of how hard you have all worked this term and how responsible you have acted in our current situation. You are all amazing. 

Now it's time to relax and enjoy some quality family time over the Christmas holidays.

You could start by watching your favourite Christmas movie.

Croeso i Ddosbarth 10

Welcome to Class 10

Even though it has been a very unusual start to the new academic year, the children have all settled really well into Year 6, and are coping well with the changes and new daily routines.  We are creating our own ‘class bubble’ and our daily routine involves regular hand washing and sanitising, which the children are taking great responsibility for.

We are focusing at the moment on wellbeing, ensuring all pupils are happy, settled and ready for learning and continuing to make progress.

Class information

• PE for this half term will be carried out outside so there is no need to provide PE kit for your child. However, they can wear trainers and joggers/leggings on a Tuesday for our PE day.
• While we shall be continuing to read daily in class, no reading books will be sent home this term. Home reading support will be provided using an online system, which we shall inform you about soon. Until then please support your child by encouraging them to read any books you may have at home or use the following website – home.oxfordowl.co.uk
• Hometasks will be set weekly on a Friday and will be set online on our Google Classroom page. Information for accessing and using Google Classroom has been sent home via email.
• Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school every day, clearly marked with their name and filled from home. There is no need to bring any other resources to school.
